Summer working....

Just a sneak peek of my classroom. I had to switch rooms again this year, so progress in my room is slower than I would like. I plan on taking the opportunity to purge much of my stuff! :) Still a bit of work to do to match books to their labels, but the hard part is done. Have a great weekend!

I Wish My Teacher Knew...

SOOOO I totally jumped on the idea of I wish my teacher knew. Brilliant I tell ya! Sometimes we get so bogged down in the day to day happenings that we cannot always slow down and appreciate our little darlings. Their responses were so sweet, with the occasional sad one. Keep reading to see some of the responses.

I Wish My Teacher Knew...

-that I have 2 pets
-that I have been bullied on the bus.
-she (mom) won't give me my meds and I like to kick the ball.
-that I have a pet snake. My mom is mean. My dad is mean. (this one broke my heart)
-that I am scared of Chuckie (me too, so I feel their pain)
-that I get to play school when I finish my homework :) (future teacher here)
-that my playstation was broke (more time for spelling word practice muahhahahah)
-that I practice more than I'm supposed to.
-that I went to the autism walk and played and played and got face painted and got a balloon
-that when it was snowing outside, my sister got a snowball and hit me in the bottom (I taught the sister, and I got a giggle because I can just see this happening)
-my nickname is Lay and I have a pink bike and my mom had a baby
-that they were my favorite teachers but I don't want nobody to know because I don't want nobody to get upset.

I love my firsties, and I loved the idea of doing this. It was interesting and mostly fun to read their responses. Have a great day!

Donors are wonderful!

This has been a very busy but wonderful school year so far. I had my very first project on DonorsChoose.org funded and was awarded a grant from a local company. Now my classroom has brand new equipment and readers too! I love the looks on my students faces when they walk in each morning and get to choose a new book for the day! Make sure to check out Donors Choose and submit your very first project!

Classroom Reveal!

I have been working very hard in my classroom this summer. I was one of the lucky ones at my school to have a classroom "renovation". As I work at a very old school, we have drafty (in the winter) and leaky rooms and the air does not cool well on hot days. I feel like I have a brand new room now! I can't wait to share it with you along with the super cute décor pack I bought from a fellow blogger! Details and pictures coming soon... :)

We Are Super Improvers!

Two weeks ago I introduced an idea from Whole Brain Teaching called Super Improvers. I knew I needed something to get my kiddos to give 100% again and to help for the end of the year slump with behavior. TADA! I made the big reveal on a Monday morning and they were so excited. I knew we were near the end of the year so I changed the requirements for moving colors to suit my needs. This is based solely on achievements except if they get a Purple Day which is exciting for them! :) When they get 5 stars they get to change their color to the next level.
They take full responsibility for this so it is no work on my part except to monitor them. If they reach Living Legend they will get their picture taken and be at the top of my Super Improvers wall FOREVER! They love this idea! Enjoy and I hope you will be inspired to try this with your students! Next year we will go to 10-15 stars to move levels, since we will have the whole year to try.
